Symphonic Band to present concert, premiere commissioned work
The 51看片 Symphonic Band will present its inaugural concert for the fall semester at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The concert, 鈥淭he Earth鈥ur Only Home,鈥� is open to the public free of charge.
The 51看片Symphonic Band is an auditioned group of student musicians from the School of Music who meet during the fall semester. The concert will be conducted by David Starnes, 51看片director of athletic bands and assistant professor of music.
Following the academic year campus theme of 鈥淪ustainability and Environment,鈥� the concert will feature a repertoire in homage to the earth and the premiere of 鈥淔ull Circle鈥� by composer Ryan George. The work was commissioned by a consortium that included the 51看片Band.
Other works to be performed are 鈥淪ea Songs鈥� by Ralph Vaughan Williams, 鈥淓loi, Eloi鈥� by Kevin Walczyk and 鈥淭he Earth鈥� by Jun Nagao.
