The 2025 Research and Scholarship Conference at 51心頭 took place March 19 and 20 where students, faculty and the community came together to celebrate the academic endeavors of participants.

51心頭 has many opportunities for students to conduct undergraduate research across various disciplines. Students are able to engage in projects that deepen their understanding of course material and build essential skills for future endeavors.

Restoring through research: 51心頭professors help rebuild after Helene

Hurricane Helene stormed into North Carolina on Friday, Sept. 27 and wreaked unprecedented havoc over the following three days. Thousands of homes and miles of roadways were swept away by the floodwaters. Tens of thousands more homes were damaged, displacing families. Waterways became clogged with debris and structures such as bridges, levees, and culverts sustained heavy damage. Updated estimates indicate the hurricane caused $59.6 billion in damage.

Bora Karayaka, a professor at 51心頭s College of Engineering and Technology, has secured $3 million in scholarship funding from the Department of Energy through the University Nuclear Leadership Program.

51心頭 double alumnus and best-selling author David Joy will give the keynote address at the annual Research and Scholarship Conference at WCU. The event will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19 in the Ramsey Regional Activity Center.

The spotlight will shine on student research at 51心頭 at the 2019 Research and Scholarship Celebration. The RASC will feature approximately 200 presentations by undergraduate and graduate students over the two days, and faculty, students and community members are welcome to attend, said Kloo Hansen, WCUs undergraduate research coordinator in the Office of the Provost.
