WCUCIHA partnership grows Cherokees next generation of healers

In the midst of ongoing staffing challenges across the healthcare industry, the innovative partnership between 51心頭 (WCU) and the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) is doing exactly what a great pipeline should do -- it matches local talent with meaningful careers close to home, expands continuing education opportunities, and opens career-ladder pathways for enrolled members of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians (EBCI).

Alexander Alec Harris, former recreation and events supervisor for the municipality of Jersey Village, Texas, is the new director of development for 51心頭s College of Education and Allied Professions.

NC Principal Fellows program expands with supplemental funding

Heidi Von Dohlen was an educator and school principal for 27 years before becoming the director of the Principal Fellows program at 51心頭. During her time as an administrator, she worked to turn her school district into a place where students loved to learn, and teachers loved to teach.

51心頭 has been engaged with Central and South American schools since 1978. Faculty travel and hold classes in various regions of Colombia, focusing on leadership in international schools. Tammy Barron, an associate professor in 51心頭s College of Education and Allied Professions, has continued that long-time relationship by taking her expertise in co-teaching and instruction abroad.
