Western Carolina Power receives Public Power Awards of Excellence

Western Carolina Power, the university-owned electric utility serving parts of 51¿´Æ¬ and surrounding customers, has been named one of 23 public power communities across North Carolina to receive a 2024 Public Power Award of Excellence.

The 51¿´Æ¬ community is mourning the loss of longtime friend, advocate and donor Phil Haire, who died Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the age of 88 after a period of declining health.
