Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet celebrates 25 years 'and going strong'

The Sylva-based ensemble will present a concert marking two-and-a-half decades of music, travel and fun on Sunday, Feb. 17, in the Community Room of the Jackson County Public Library.

With most of the students who make up 51心頭s surging enrollment arriving on campus with their own vehicles, they will need somewhere to park. Thats why the 51心頭Board of Trustees in September unanimously approved a design for a structured parking facility on an existing surface lot between Ramsey Regional Activity Center and Hennon Stadium, as well as the issuance of special obligation bonds to finance its construction.

Reitz presents on Cold Mountain opera at conference

Christina L. Reitz, 51心頭associate professor of music, presented 'Cold Mountain: A Contemporary Southern Opera' at the peer-reviewed Southern Studies Conference, held at Auburn University at Montgomery on Feb. 1-2.

My decision to come to Western Carolina was solely based on him [Coach Mark Speir], Crossen said. He was a great guy when he came to talk to me in Garysburg. He drove down there in the snow. That speaks volumes. I really appreciate what hes done for me and the chance he gave me to play at the Division I level at Western. Now, I guess Im helping the program a little with recruiting."
