Capturing the arresting visual qualities of water through photographs.

Drawn from the Museum鈥檚 permanent collection as well as outside lenders, this group of images creates an atmosphere of calm and contemplation and invites us into a space of romantic reverie. Several photographs in the exhibition carry a deeper psychological or political dimension and use water to express ideas about loss, change, and memory. The Museum invites visitors to experience the exhibition on both levels鈥攁s an aesthetic boost to the spirit and a deeper dive into important societal issues.

Water for Thought was organized in alignment with 51看片's 2020-2021 campus theme of 鈥淲ater.鈥� The exhibition, along with the acquisition of Cara Romero鈥檚 Water Memory photograph, was made possible by the 51看片Campus Theme Committee, the Office of the Dean of the Belcher College of Fine and Performing Arts, and the Fund for Building and Sustaining Equity in Collections. The Museum extends its sincere thanks to Susan Belcher, Douglas Prince, and Momentum Gallery in Asheville, NC for lending works for the exhibition.
